What You Need to Know

As we look ahead to the next phase of the Quad renovation and on-campus housing, we wanted to share some important information with you regarding College Houses available for returning student room selection for the 2024-2025 academic year.

To ensure we are providing housing options for our rising third- and fourth-year students, Penn has secured a master lease with the Axis for the 2024-2025. Located at 36th and Chestnut near the Sheraton and Kings Court English House, Axis will provide additional bed spaces, which are all single room and private bathroom.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, Gutmann College House will be a Four-Year College House.

If you have any questions, please reach out via living@upenn.edu or 215-898-3547.

Axis is located at 20 S 36th St, near Kings Court English College House.

Axis has only one room type available: a single room with private bathroom.

There are 130 bed spaces available.

Rooms at the Axis will be at the standard room rate, which for the 2023-2024 academic year is $ $12,166.

Like all of our College Houses, there will be an Information Center and 24/7 security. Additionally, there are microfridges in each room, fitness room, free community laundry, and a community lounge with community kitchen. Free Wi-Fi and access to Xfinity On Campus will also be provided.

This option is available for second through fourth-year students.

During Returning Room Selection, room selection eligible students will be able to select a room in Axis during the Move to Any House phase. Current Kings Court English College House residents will be able to select a room in the Axis during the Return to House phase.

Kings Court English College House will support residents in Axis, including RAs, programming, etc. This model of two buildings as part of one College House will make it similar to that of Gregory College House and Stouffer College House.

At this time, we do not anticipate Axis serving as a College House beyond the 2024-2025 academic year.

In consultation with College Houses & Academic Services, the joint decision was made because of the structure of the room layouts (suite-style) follow what many of our first-year students experience (Lauder and Gregory, for example). Additionally, we did not want to take away apartments and high-rise bed spaces away from our returning students.

Based on the number of residents who are eligible to participate in Returning Room Selection, we anticipate that current Gutmann residents will be able to return to Gutmann for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Gutmann will continue to be an open building for winter break for the 2024-2025 academic year.
