Our Room Rate Philosophy

In Fall 2016, Residential Services worked with campus partners to create a new room rate structure. Moving from six room rates to two, the change was designed to increase housing equity and access and brings 100% of first-year rooms within the student aid allotment for housing. For the 2023-2024 academic year, 77.3% rooms are at the lower room rate.

The current student aid allotment rate is applied to all traditional singles, doubles and triples, suites and apartments without full kitchens and apartments with any “shared” bedrooms.  All apartment style units with private bedrooms, kitchens and baths are offered at a higher rate.

Residential Services continues to work with campus partners to review room rates. Please reach out to living@upenn.edu if you have any questions.
