Moving Info

Day of Move-In

Given our urban setting, variety of building styles, and number of students moving onto campus, our on-campus areas have different experiences arriving on campus. Click on your building below to find out more information about your specific move-in experience. Buildings are in alphabetical order, with Lower Quad encompassing Riepe and Ware and Upper Quad encompassing Fisher and Ware.

Haven't been to campus before? Check out this campus map for information about parking garages and street directions.

Are you arriving after move-in operations close for the day? Refer to the After-Hours Arrivals information below.

Getting Access to Your Room and Building

Room access will be issued to you when you move in at the beginning of occupancy. The acceptance of keys or updated PennCard access for your room constitutes a "move in" and should always accompany an official check in to the residential occupancy system through the online check-in process or at an Info Center. The acceptance of access constitutes taking of occupancy, even if the resident does not stay in the room or place belongings there.

Checking In and PennCards:

  • Residents should check-in via RHS Portal before they enter their building.
  • PennCards will be available for pickup at the Tent near Du Bois between 8am and 5pm.  Outside of those hours, cards will be available at the Information Centers.

Guest Passes:

  • You will be able to preregister your guests from early July to mid-August via RHS Portal.  RHS  strongly recommends preregistering your guests, to minimize wait times during the Move In process.  You will be able to download and send your guests electronic guest passes that can be displayed on cell phones.  Guests will need to have ID and also have their pass scanned at the tent or information center to gain entry to the building.
  • You may also obtain guest passes at the Information Center upon arrival. You and your guests must present photo ID to obtain a guest pass.

Additional Information:

  • Campus wide operations end on August 29, including parking access and complimentary lot parking.
  • For all other dates, residents should plan to park and pay at Penn’s visitor garages/lots or the City of Philadelphia kiosk managed spaces and to be careful of parking restrictions and times.

After-hours arrival times are for students arriving after 3 pm on August 25 or after 5 pm on August 23, 24, and 27-29 on scheduled move-in days. You must select an after-hours arrival time on MyHomeAtPenn. myhomeatpenn.upenn.edu. Please note that if this after-hours arrival is also an early arrival, you may be charged a nightly fee.

If you are arriving after-hours, please note that streets will not be closed and there will not be staff available to assist with parking and moving items up steps in selected buildings.
