Tips For

Bathroom

Pull the shower curtain inside the tub while you are showering to prevent leaks and flooding. To switch the spray from the faucet to the showerhead, pull or turn the small lever attached to the tub spout or pull the temperature control knob.

Tips For

Food Disposal & Storage

Disposal
Food waste should go in the trash. If you are cooking with oil or grease, put it in a container and let it harden, then dispose of it in the trash instead of pouring it down the sink, as it will cause a clog.
Use the trash chute to dispose of trash bags. Trash chutes are located at the Upper Quad Gate, at Graduate, and at Speakman.

Storage
Use plastic containers to store food and dispose of leftovers quickly to discourage pests.

Tips For

Sprinklers & Smoke Detectors

Do not cover or hang anything from either the sprinkler or smoke detector – this could cause flooding and damage to your room.

Tips For

Windows

Do not lean against windows screens. Be sure the lock is disengaged before you try to close your window.

If you have a double-hung window and need a window screen, contact your Information Center. Submit a work request via AIM if you would like a screen for a casement window (windows with latches and a hinge).

To operate the window, you need to fully turn the crank handle before latching
the windows, otherwise the window will remain open. Double check that all latches are up before trying to close a window all the way.

Similarly, all latches must be open before the window will open. Forcing the hand crank when the latches are closed may break the window.

Tips For

Heating & Cooling

Find the on/off switch and temperature buttons on your heating and cooling unit. Adjust the amount of air being blown with the Fan Speed icon. Use the up and down arrows to make it warmer or cooler in your room. It may take a few minutes for the unit to kick in – please do not keep it maxed out.

When you raise the temperature set point in heating mode, the unit will run until the room reaches the desired temperature. If the temperature set point is lowered, the system will shut off until the room cools down naturally.

When you lower the temperature set point in air conditioning mode, the unit will run until the the room reaches the desired temperature. If the temperature set point is raised, the system will shut off until the room warms up naturally.

Please keep your windows closed while the air conditioning is running to prevent moisture in your room.

For best air circulation, it is recommended that furniture is not placed against the FCU.

Seasonal Heating + Air Conditioning
This dual temperature systems will provide heat or air conditioning seasonally. Facilities and Residential Services controls when the system transitions from one to the other.
