Tips For

Bathroom

Shower
Pull the shower curtain inside the tub while you are showering to prevent leaks and flooding. In some of the showers, you may need to switch the spray from the faucet to the showerhead. To do so, pull or turn the small lever attached to the tub spout or pull the temperature control knob.

Prevent condensation by running the exhaust fan (connected to the light fixture) for 5-10 minutes after your shower.

Toilet
If your toilet overflows, turn the oval shaped handle attached to the pipe in the back of the toilet. This can help prevent flooding until maintenance arrives.

Tips For

Food Disposal & Storage

Disposal
Food waste should go in the trash. If you are cooking with oil or grease, put it in a container and let it harden, then dispose of it in the trash instead of pouring it down the sink, as it will cause a clog.

Storage
Use plastic containers to store food and dispose of leftovers quickly to discourage pests.

Kitchen
Run the kitchen exhaust fan for 5-10 minutes after cooking to prevent condensation.

Tips For

Electrical Outlets

Some electrical outlets are controlled by the switch on the wall. If the item you’ve plugged in doesn’t work, try flipping the switch and then try again.

Tips For

Sprinklers & Smoke Detectors

Do not cover or hang anything from either the sprinkler or smoke detector – this could cause flooding and damage to your room.

Tips For

Dumbwaiter

A dumbwaiter is a small freight elevator or lift designed to carry objects rather than people. Instructions are found on the outside of the unit. If the dumbwaiter does not respond to a call to the floor, check each floor to make sure the doors to the dumbwaiter are closed before reporting the problem.

Tips For

Windows

Keep the access panel in the screen closed and secured at all times when your window is open. This is the panel you must pull up and down to gain access to the window. When your window is secured shut, the locking mechanism next to the screen should be facing downward, in the locked position.

Tips For

Heating & Cooling

Find the on/off switch and temperature buttons on your heating and cooling unit. Adjust the amount of air being blown with the Fan Speed icon. Use the up and down arrows to make it warmer or cooler in your room. It may take a few minutes for the unit to kick in – please do not keep it maxed out.

When you raise the temperature set point in heating mode, the unit will run until the room reaches the desired temperature. If the temperature set point is lowered, the system will shut off until the room cools down naturally.

When you lower the temperature set point in air conditioning mode, the unit will run until the the room reaches the desired temperature. If the temperature set point is raised, the system will shut off until the room warms up naturally.

Please keep your windows closed while the air conditioning is running to prevent moisture in your room.

For best air circulation, it is recommended that furniture is not placed against the FCU.

Seasonal Heating + Air Conditioning
The FCU is a dual temperature system and will provide heat or air conditioning seasonally. Facilities and Residential Services controls when the system transitions from one to the other.
