What You Need to Know
The Radian will temporarily become a College House starting Fall 2023 continuing through Spring 2026. Below you will find helpful information about what you can expect, how to continue to live in the Radian through the College House process, and about this transition. If you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at living@upenn.edu.
The Radian will continue as an off-campus community through the end of July 2023. All current resident Housing Agreements will remain in place and will be honored through their stated end date, most of which are July 27, 2023.
If you are a current Radian resident who will be a full-time undergraduate student for the 2023-2024 academic year, you will need to complete the 3rd & 4th Year Room Selection Application in November. In order to be eligible for room selection, you must submit your full application by February 7. Students who complete their application will be able to choose from available spaces in February.
If you are currently living in a College House and are a rising third- or fourth-year student, you will need to complete the 3rd & 4th Year Room Selection Application in November and later submit the full application by February 7 as well.
If you are a current first-year student, you will have the opportunity to select a room in College House at the Radian during room selection, should there be any availability. NOTE: Current first-year students who choose to live with a rising 3rd or 4th year student, you will be included in your roommates’ application process.
Current residents of the Radian, who complete both the 3rd & 4th year application in November and the full application in Spring Semester will be able to participate in the Room Retention and Return to House processes. In order to participate in Room Retention, all rooms within the unit must be filled. Students cannot retain single apartments in the Radian or partially fill units during this phase.
It is not guaranteed that all rooms will be retainable for room selection. If your room is unable to be retained, you will be able to complete the Return to House process and select from available units in the Radian.
Yes, that is possible. You and friends you want to live with next year will need to participate in the room selection process. Please note that all occupants will need to be eligible to live on-campus and will need to have completed the application(s). Only incoming first-year students will not be eligible to live in the Radian.
If you are a rising third- or fourth-year student and are unable to select a room at the College House at the Radian due to lack of available spaces or preferred room types, you can select a different room type in another College House.
If you do not want to select a room at another College House, you can cancel your application. There is no cancellation fee for not selecting housing.
Like all our College Houses, residents of the College House at the Radian will need to follow our Terms & Conditions and our Residential Handbook. This includes having an academic-year housing contract and following all policies and procedures. For more information, click here.
For current Radian residents who select to return to the Radian during the room selection process, we will make every effort to allow you to stay over this transitional summer. Please note that your exact room might not be available and that you may need to move within the building over the summer. Eligible residents will be able to apply for Radian summer continuous residency via MyHomeAtPenn and we will share information about the process at a later date.
At this time, we do not have the room rates for the 2023-2024 academic year. Room rates are reviewed each year by the University’s Board of Trustees and are confirmed after room selection concludes. Room rates that you will see during the process are based off of current academic year rates. Typically, room rates are increased approximately 3% to 4% each year.
Radian rooms will be at the higher room rate, which for the 2022-2023 academic year is $15,418.
If you have questions about your financial aid package, please reach out to Student Registration and Financial Services at https://srfs.upenn.edu/.
Check out our website that has facilities and amenities information. Apartments are fully furnished, including full-size beds and in-unit laundry.
At this time, we anticipate being able to house around 950 rising third- and fourth-year students throughout our four-year and upperclass College Houses. For students interested in returning to the Radian, the following room types will be available during the Room Retention process:
- 2 BR/LR/KIT/2BA
- 3 BR/LR/KIT/2 BA
- 4 RB/LR/KIT/2 BA
- 4 BR/LR/KIT/4 BA
While there is no guarantee that you will be able in your current apartment, we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for current Radian residents.
Starting in Fall 2023, the Radian will function as an upperclass College House. This means that College Houses & Academic Services (CHAS) faculty, staff, and RAs will live in the building and serve as resources and support for the undergraduate students that live in the building – hosting programs and events, and keeping you connected to dedicated Penn faculty and staff.
Our team in Off-Campus Services is ready to assist you in searching for new off-campus housing. Please review their website and reach out to ocliving@upenn.edu if you have any questions not answered on the website.
The Radian will honor all current Housing Agreements, which typically run through July 27, 2023. Unless you have a confirmed contract with Residential Services at The Radian for 2023-2024 with a confirmed assignment to the same apartment, you will need to move out of your apartment by the end date of your current Housing Agreement. Residents will not be able to extend their existing Housing Agreements.
If you are a current graduate student and are looking at options for where to live next year, we can connect you with the managers at The Accolade to learn about their affordably priced, furnished graduate-focused housing, which is opening the summer of 2023. Please email us a living@upenn.edu if you would like to learn more.

Like all of our College Houses, the Information Center – front desk of the building – will be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days as week. The College House at the Radian will have a Residential Services Manager ready to assist with any facilities, maintenance, or security concerns. College House RAs will maintain a duty schedule.
The Department of Residential Services works closely with the Division of Public Safety to ensure the safety and security of residents in the College Houses and Sansom Place. Residential safety and security integrates exacting procedures, trained personnel, state of the art equipment, database management, educational programs, and messaging. Contract guard staff, card swipe stations, and mechanical and optical turnstiles are essential elements of the residential security program.
